Tesco's commitment to encouraging school children to get active stretche's far beyond The FA Tesco Skills Programme.

The Tesco Great School Run is a 2k fun run staged at schools across the UK encouraging children to take part in exercise for fun, and to help make physical activity part of each schools and every family's lifestyle. Now in its 6th year, Tesco's aim is to involve over 1 million children from all across the UK.

As well as the run itself Tesco have a host of online resources for teachers to use in their classrooms in the build up to the event. These encourage healthier lifestyles and positive attitudes towards physical activity. Visit www.greatschoolrun.com for more information.

Every school that signs up for the Tesco Great School Run also receives a free teacher's pack, including:

  • A set of race numbers for all children taking part in the event.
  • A poster to hang on a school notice board.
  • A teacher's booklet - a guide to help teachers to get the most from the event, the campaign and the supporting web-based education programme. Its a resource that can be kept in the staff room for reference purposes so that everyone involved will know what's available and how it can be used to get children ready for the run.
  • The booklet also includes an interactive school assembly DVD based on the programme's three key themes.
